Sienna Spiro stuns at her headline Manchester show

On September 10th, the singer-songwriter Sienna Spiro began her ‘Just Visting!’ tour, kickstarting in Manchester for one night only at New Century Hall, undeniably leaving all those in attendance in complete awe and admiration.

Sienna came and she conquered, grasping her fans complete attention, love, and presence for the duration of the performance while ensuring both an intimate and captivating atmosphere was created through an array of lighting configurations, stage presence, and breathtaking vocals throughout.

Sienna’s pianist prior to the tour, Pour La Vie, opened the show, immediately setting the intimate tone that would follow through the evening. She instantaneously calmed the hall with her delicate stage presence and a mix of both self-written songs and covers, allowing for feelings of familiarity interspersed with the opportunity for emotional stimulation and new lyrics to relate to.

Pour La Vie captured her audience's attention with each song being given its own mini explanation prior to it being played, allowing for reflection and an even greater appreciation for her vocal fluidity and range.

In no time at all, Sienna graced the stage, accompanied by background music taking inspiration from jazz classics paired with a sensual choreographed movement embodying a gospel background singer, and sparking the initial similarities between the likes of herself and Amy Winehouse.

Her ability to stay composed and confident while allowing for multiple fan interactions is reflective of not only her innate comfort found in performing, but the love that she feels towards her fans being very much equal to the love that they clearly feel for her, shown evidently through the loud cheers and ‘I love you’s’ and ‘I love you too’s’  that were a constant motif throughout the night.

Sienna’s sincerity and appreciation for both her fans and their genuine response to her art was expressed as she addressed the crowd after dazzling them with her first two songs, mentioning her love and excitement towards the rest of the show as well as much to her fans delight, pointing out that she would be playing some of her unreleased songs created at a more recent date.

The masterpiece of the show wasn’t just Sienna’s doing. With her exquisite vocal range and rawness that seemed to travel as far as the merch stand at the back of the hall, came her band. They worked in perfect harmony with the emotion behind her voice and both atmosphere and chemistry created with each song played, as well as perfectly working in tandem with the lighting and design aspects of her show, using reds, oranges and pinks that fit the brief.

Later on in the set, Sienna confessed: “this is the part of the show where I play the piano, and I’m not the greatest so please bear with me.” Instead of sticking to her word, she shocked audiences with a delicate and profoundly intimate piano piece, sitting with only a spotlight to showcase her. This was the moment You Stole The Show was played, a fan favourite that was only enhanced by the mundane task of sitting by the piano to accompany her voice. As the chorus bloomed into fruition, each and every body in the room was warmed by her vocal ability to soothe and provoke feelings from the audiences own experiences that ultimately led them to Sienna in the first place!

With only a few songs to go, Die On This Hill was the epitome of emotion, with the audience lighting up the hall with their phone flashlights leading to Sienna remarking that she wishes we were able to see what she can from the stage. Staying rooted to her microphone, centre stage, Spiro poured her soul into the lyricism with her drummer being the one to initiate the starry night of flashes.

The show ended with the song that has been on everyone’s tongues since it was released: Maybe. The perfect ending to the most beautiful and intimate show, Sienna looked shocked by the response to her music, with a smile and giggle gracing indicating such genuine love and gratitude for what she does. This was a climactic ending even after she had departed the stage, with her two guitarists playing a solo that felt like it was leading you out of the experience instead of throwing you out abruptly.

All in all, Sienna Spiro’s Manchester performance was the start of everything that is yet to come for Sienna. Her natural talent to connect with an audience with a genuine care as well as stand out vocals makes it extremely clear that this is only the beginning of her successes both in future shows and studios.
