“It’s kicking the hinges off the doors to the next chapter” - Ellur’s latest single, ‘Missing Kid’

The first of an upcoming series of songs close to Halifax-born singer-songwriter Ellur’s heart, Missing Kid was released on July 16th via Dance To The Radio.

An indie anthem that explores the highs and lows of healing from years of self-analysing, Missing Kid is all about the importance of trusting your instincts and learning to let go of that ‘sinking feeling’ we all know so well.

Marking her first new single release of 2025, Missing Kid is the product of sessions with producer Joel Johnston, showcasing Ellur’s first steps into the overwhelm of adult life: Missing Kid is about how I observe the people in my life”, Ellur explains. “I sometimes feel like I’m just copying what everyone else is doing, simply because I don’t know what I’m ‘supposed to’ do.”

The follow-up to her acclaimed 2025 EP, God Help Me Now, Ellur’s latest single retains her signature summer-charged anthemic sound whilst venturing into a new chapter of vulnerable and honest lyricism.

The track opens with an addictive and sparkling melody, as Ellur sets the scene: “I’ve studied you relentlessly / The red in your face I steal when I’m leaving the house / I keep trying on all the things you feel.”

The first verse reads like poetry as Ellur grapples with the chaos of her own emotions: “Just a wounded dog, a fake warrior / An abundance of love, I go with the flow til I drown / Every film I watch, I leave in tears.” Soon enough, comes the chorus’ iconic refrain, “Every aisle I look down, I’m looking like a missing kid.” Stranded in early adulthood like a child whose lost their parent at the supermarket, the singer’s looking round in desperation for someone else to lead the way out.

Singing of foolish dreams and “teeth [that] keep falling out”, Ellur confesses in the second verse: “There’s a hero I’ve been looking to, a fictional world where you can’t keep letting me down / Everything I’ve done was for loving you.”

Once again, we’re reunited with the all-too-familiar “sinking feeling” as the chorus charges forward, revealing that “going through Hell” can look a lot like healing when you’re wearing a mask for the people around you.

In her July 15th Instagram post, Ellur explained, Missing Kid is a song that helped me heal from years of self-analysing. I don’t judge myself as much anymore. I trust my instincts. I had to write about the ‘sinking feeling’ in order to move on from it.”

A song that envelops all the ebbs and flows of emotional catharsis, coming-of-age nostalgia and the never-ending battle with gut feelings, Missing Kid certainly succeeds in breaking down the walls of listeners who relate to its lyrics.

Via her mailing list, Ellur told fans: “It’s the big indie number all about self-reflection, identity and healing. Writing this song was the thing that healed me and I can’t wait for you to hear it live. Give it a listen and then get yourself down to the nearest Ellur show!”

For those wanting to hear Missing Kid live this year, Ellur is heading out on tour from September 30th, with dates across Manchester, Glasgow, London and more. Tickets are available here with more information below:
